What is Hypnotherapy or Hypnosis Therapy?

Last Updated 8/20/2024

Hypnosis allows for shifts in our consciousness that enable us to tap into our natural abilities and gifts. This shift allows us to make changes to our daily habits, beliefs, and lifestyle.

Hypnosis may be used for unconscious exploration, to better understand underlying reasons, purposes or motivations that control our choices/decisions.

What is clinical hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnotherapy is an altered state of awareness or consciousness. Some call it “trance” or deep meditation that is highly relaxing. The technique is offered by a licensed therapist, like myself, for treating psychological and physical problems. During these states of altered consciousness, the analytical, logical brain becomes an active observer, so the client is able to start deliberately working with their unconscious. Once we are intentionally working with our unconscious, we gain control and influence while feeling empowered. We are then able to accept, appreciate and understand our unconscious parts. This is the opposite of what most of us do while being unaware of our unconscious which is avoidance and aversion, leaving our unconscious unattended to run wild and rule our lives.

What is hypnosis/hypnotherapy used for?

In therapy, it can be used for anxiety, mood disorders, sexual problems, addictions, smoking control, weight control/loss, pain, self-esteem/self-worth, digestive issues.

What is the length of treatment?

The length of treatment can vary as the nature and severity of each person’s problem is considered and incorporated into the routes of treatment. We take time to explore purpose, cause, intention, and motivation/reasons for the current state/problem (the state in which we would like to change) before we make a change. What happens if you use hypnosis/hypnotherapy to change a habit before you discover purpose? The habit/addiction can show up in another area of your life – healthy or unhealthy. The goal in hypnotherapy is to understand, learn and accept all parts of our unconscious first. In therapy, we call this trauma informed and trauma responsive as many of our unconscious traits were developed during times of stress, crisis or trauma and to some degree served us well in those moments and helped us to survive.
